Join us for a five week course at Stitching Kitchen and have fun with fabric and thread while learning about all the skills you need as you start your dressmaking hobby. Whether you're a complete beginner or refreshing your skills, our introductory garment sewing course is designed to build confidence and creativity. Over 10 hours (5 sessions), you'll gain hands-on experience making one or more beginner friendly garments of your choice.
What makes a sewing pattern suitable for a beginner
How to read all those markings and make simple adjustments
Typical contruction techniques and the order you put a garment together
Pleats, darts and other shaping tricks
Therory of more complex alterations such as FBA
Full instruction and support in a small class
Use of our Pfaff and Janome machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.
Two Tilly and the Buttons patterns and instructions of your choice
10% off in the Stitching Kitchen shop during your workshop and the weeks beforehand
Class handouts are provided via email after each class.
Tea and cake.
You will recieve two sewing patterns as part of this workshop course but you will need to purchase fabric and notiions for it. We can help you with this and you recieve 10% off in the studio shop.
Please note that this workshop is held in our light and spacious first floor studio at Stitching Kitchen, which is accessible by stairs.
Hannah is the owner of Stitching Kitchen. Hannah really enjoys dressmaking and is often sporting her own ‘me made’ outfits. She has attended college to learn pattern cutting and garment construction. She has a wealth of experience in all aspects of sewing and textile crafts and loves to share her skills.

We stock Tilly and the Buttons patterns most of which are suitable for beginners and confident beginners - check our webshop to find out what we have in stock, you can choose two patterns which are included in your workshop cost.
If you have been to our learn to sew course that is perfect! If not don't worry - if you feel able to use a sewing machine, thread it and wind a bobbin and keep it under control in a straight line and around a corner you are ready to start sewing your clothes!
Don't worry! You will still received the lesson notes via email and we can support you with your garment sewing - as a small business we can be flexible and can help you out at another time when Hannah is in the studio (doing paperwork) while you get on with your garment sewing.
